Cowhide Leather

Cleaning cow leather sleeves?

Hi, I have a varisty jacket made of wool with a somewhat smooth cowhide leather sleeves and pocket details. They've become not only dirty, but I believe one day I was caught in rain and the black wool may have bleed on the inner sleeves. I've looked everywhere for a solution but having really found a solid answer on how to clean it, just wondering if anyone here may be able to help me out. It was kind of pricey lol. I have some pictures of it to give a clearer view

This is a classic case of dye transfer. Dye transfer can be a problem to resolve as the longer it is on the leather the further it travels into the finish and the harder it is to remove. You need to try a product like Maxi Cleaner which was specifically formulated for this kind of problem but if this does not work it does not mean that the product is no good merely that it has gone beyond being a cleaning job.

If you cannot 'clean' it off then the final answer will be to use solvents but this will require recolouring and refinishing.
