Stephen King's The Mist, the end....?

Before David shoots Amanda, Dan, Irene, and his son we can hear a creature screaming out so loudy in the background. Also in the end when the old women says " nobody can say that" a creature screams and then if you listen closely you can hear a sound like a jet plane. Then the old women looks up. Just like something gone above her head. After that the creature still screams (the screaming is coming from a very large animal. It might be the gigantic creature that passed by them in the mist.) My guess is the american army were attacking the gigantic creature while David lose hope. I just think. Cause it's possible. Then after a while the army appear infront of david. So what you think? Why was the ending so pathetic?

Well yeah. I'm not sure about what you say about the old woman and a creature screaming, but yes, the people had left the store and were sitting in the car. They all thought that the only solution when the creatures show up, is for the guy to kill them and then kill himself. I don't know why the guy didn't wait until a creature showed up. He kind of jumped the gun, and the noises ended up being the military rolling through. Doh!
