Should I lock a hard case vintage suitcase or tie it ?

I have a vintage suitcase (70's, perfect condition) that I plan on using on traveling this month from LAX - to WA. The locks (with keys) work perfectly, however I cannot get a TSA approved lock because there's nowhere to put it. I was considering some sort of belt or strap around the shell but I'm still wary of just sending it out unlocked. Should I go this route? Please help!

I wouldn't want to imagine what would happen to my suitcase if they couldn't pry it open.

Don't lock it with the built in locks. It sounds like you are aware that the TSA inspectors want to be able to open every single bag, if they feel there is a need to. In your situation, they would have to break the locks. That would be a shame.

Since there is no place to fasten a TSA approved lock, I would definitely get some kind of luggage strap to fasten around it. Don't pack anything valuable in it, of course.

If a baggage handler wants to get into a suitcase, there isn't any kind of a lock that will keep them out. All of the TSA approved locks that I have seen are terribly weak anyhow.

If you want to keep that suitcase in perfect condition, you should take a different one on your trip. There is no way to predict the kind of shape it will be in when you pick it up.
