Having trouble connecting my freesat box to the sky dish. The signal is good but just says searching 4 listing?
The signal strength & quality are good, the lock indicator is ok but the network id and transponder are both 0000. I have 3 other paid sky subscription boxes that work well so the dish is aligned correctly. I just want the free to air channels in on this one for my childs bedroom. Would really appreciate some advice.
OK, you need an independant feed from the dish to the box. Dont use those so called 'splitters' because although they split the signal, the dont split them like people think they do, lets just leave that there. OK, supposing you have only this box connected to the dish, the network id you want is 0002 which is the signature for the Astra 2D satellite system that Sky use. Your transport stream needs to be 07D4, which is the main stream that sky use, this is the quickest way to ensure the dish is still aliged correctly without use of a suitable meter. Unplug the box for 30 seconds - i may sound like tech support who know sod all and just read from a script, but this WILL make the box 'forget' the Net ID and TS meaning it will actually look to see what they are again. I mean if you are showing the correct net ID and TS, the remove the cables from the dish, chances are the singal bars will go but the net id and TS wont change....
Anyways, after 30 seconds, hold BACKUP on the box and reconnect the power cable whilst keeping BACKUP held in. When all the lights come on the front of the box, let go of the button. You get a message on the screen saying not to unplug or dissconnect from dish. Dont worry, the Software Update will fail as its not connected to a dish, but it will help 'remind' the box to actually 'look' for the Net ID and TS and also check the signal thouroughly, If it dont wont still, chanced are you have a dead box. Try connecting another box and see if you get a signal. if so, the box is naff. if you still get nothing from another box, the LNB or cable might be naff. if its the cable, unscrew it from the box and see if the thin copper braiding is touching the thicker copper stinger (spike) in the middle of the cable. If it is, then fix it. Also, if cable is run under carpet, chack to see if any carper grip rods have peirced the cable, and see if anyone has stapled or tacked from the cables.
