could you have a long haired dog( german shepherd) if you have asthma?

I have just bought my wife a german shepherd puppy long haired a big fluff ball but I am worried if this will adversely affect her asthma. is there any way it could be controlled by her inhalers.

It depends on the triggers for your wife's asthma.

If you wife is not allergic to dogs then no, there will be no reaction.

However, if you wife is allergic to dogs, then depending on the severity of the allergy, the reaction could be anything from itchy eyes/runny nose, swollen airways, to, at the extreme end requiring medical treatment.

If one of your wife's triggers for her asthma is dogs and it is severe, then you may want to reconsider having a German Shepherd puppy, as it would be very likely to adversely affect her asthma.

You may, as I was, be able to have a Bedlington Terrier or Poodle, as these breeds are less likely to cause an allergic reaction is asthmatics.
