Hvar is a croatian island on the Adriatic sea located between split apartments and dubrovnik hotel.Hvar is considered as the longest island in Croatia. The island is about 68 km long and 4-11 km wide. It has a size of about 325 sq km. The highest mountains of the island are located in the southwest like the mountains:Sveti Nikola (626 meters) and Hum (603 meters). The northern coast of the island offers numerous bays. The south coast, on the contrary, is relatively unwooded and drops steeply out.
The inner part of the island is green and fertile. The visitor can find the very typical vineyards and olive groves on this part of the island. The myriad of lavender and rosemary bushes give the island a Mediterranean scent.
Hvar is also well known for its good honey and the best sardines.
The island is one of the most famous destinations in Croatia.

Climate
The climate of the central island is extremely mild. The annual average temperature amounts to 16 ° C. The island is also known as the “Madeira of the Adriatic”, because of 2700 hours of sunshine a year.
A day in fog, snow or with temperatures around the freezing point statistically occurs every 10 years on Hvar.
The winters are also very mild, so you can visit Hvar in winter as well.

Lavender
The lavender is a typical Mediterranean plant.It is very popular in Croatia and also very typical for this destination. They were planted for the first time on this island between the two world wars.

During the flowering months of June and July, the entire island is beset with light and deafening wefts of lavender scent. The lavender is dry and then cut in Augustand. A versatile usable fragrance-oil will be won from the flowers. They are usually harvested in the early morning, before sunrise, because of the heavy summer heat.

Viticulture
Many of the islanders primarily live of viticulture. The most famous wine of the island is called Plavac and it is known as the one in the Croatian world of wines. The vines are grown in the plain between Stari Grad and Jelsa.

There are numerous coves and secluded beach sections on the island Hvar. Especially the northern coast of the island invites to a beach holiday. There are also numerous cottages direktly on the waterfront.

Excursions
Numerous excursions are organized from the island of Hvar. There are daily trips to neighboring islands, like the island of Brac, the island of Korcula (the birthplace of Marco Polo), the island of Vis and the Krka waterfalls (Winnetou shooting)
There are full-day excursions (to Dubrovnik or Split for example) and half-day excursions ( to the Blue Grotto on Bisevo for example), it depends on the distance of the destination from the island of Hvar.
